On our way to France to do a "Stage Tireur de Precision": sharpshooter (sniper) training. We left Corsica on a boat and then made our way in the GBC trucks to the extensive Caylus military terrain near Toulouse.

Camouflage and infiltration tactics formed a vital part of the training. Many learned the hard way that its not easy to fully camouflage a rifle whilst maintaining its full functionality (operating the bolt handle, changing magazines, adjusting for windage on the scopes, etc).

The midday pause and "sieste". During the three week course we fired over 500 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and there were times when we spent the entire day at the range, placing rounds into the wooden silhouettes from dawn till midnight.

A photo more suited to a game hunter's photo album. We never went into terrain "naked" like this, the equipment vest (webbing) being absolutely essential.

The FRF-2 rifle, camouflaged. Chambered for the 7.62mm NATO ammunition and fitted with a SCROME J8 scope (8X magnification) the FRF-2 gives excellent results at ranges up to 800m whilst being reliable and sturdy in a variety of weather and terrain conditions. At night the scope was changed for an OB-50C night-vision device, giving remarkably accurate results at distances of up to 300m in very poor light conditions.

On the firing range with our FRF-2s. The distances at which we shot at varied from 300m to 800m, at standard camouflaged silhouettes that represented a kneeling man.
